90 miles south of Las Vegas on the banks of the Colorado River is a mini-Las Vegas strip. It's an easy day trip from Las Vegas

Laughlin is a conveniently shorter drive than Las Vegas from both Southern California and Arizona and offers the same great gaming, good weather, sports betting and golfing opportunities as Las Vegas at bargain prices.

Riding on the river taxi at night is a beautiful peaceful trip.

Laughlin is situated in the southern "point" of the state. Crossing the Colorado River puts you in Arizona, and heading west just a few miles puts you in California.

You can see all three states at the same time in some spots.

Now we head back north, seeing some more beautiful scenery along the way.

Back in Las Vegas, let's take a quick look at

Nellis Airforce Base

Nellis is home to the wonderful demonstration flying team, the "Thunderbirds"

Nellis is a huge base beginning just outside Las Vegas and includes, among other things, the famous "area 51".

Between Las Vegas and the dam, is a little town called Henderson. Just before you get there, coming from the dam, is a place called the "Railroad Pass" Casino and Hotel.

When I first visited there, many years ago, it was just a small casino and no hotel. This is where we usually stay when we visit the area. No crowds, and reasonable prices. It feels like home, since I have been going there so long, and they always treat us very well.

Let's spend a refreshing night here, and do just a little gambling.

Now, after a great breakfast in one of the Henderson restaurants, let's crank up the ol' Chevy and head north again.

VALLEY OF FIRE

55 miles N.E. of Las Vegas, bordering the Lake Mead recreation area,is Nevada's first state park.

37,000 acres of beautiful sandstone formations, in many colors.

With lots of wonderful picnic and hiking areas this is a vacation spot that can't be beat

Now onward and north again---
